The inshore fishing around San Diego has been up and down the last week. Areas of red tide around Point Loma and Imperial Beach have made for slow fishing conditions at times. That said, there are still plenty of fish to catch if you are willing to put in the time and look for the best conditions. Those were typically found on the north end of the Point Loma Kelp Beds where Calico Bass and some small Barracuda are around. Smaller Rockfish continue to bite on the edge of the kelp beds. There has been some mixed Yellowtail and Bonito under birds south of the Whistler Buoy but the fish are locked in to micro bait and tough to get to bite. The highlight of the week for us was catching a couple of excellent eating Lingcod on dropper loop sardine. Expect the bite to improve over the next week as the red tide begins to clear and the water continues to warm up heading into summer.
